The Ballad of Fishwah
by Zwei
This Thoomish ballad was originally sung during the wedding of Babajaga and Sleipnir.
Fishwah was the most famous Thoom sailor, an explorer of great renown in the tales of the mainland.
wondrous things we'll find: over winter whitecaps fly. love, i sail for thee. |
my heart is with you
as your tiny sail flutters. fishwah, sail to sea. |
the wide sea's glassy: land ho! a green horizon! love, i sail for thee. |
flowers bloom again,
i watch children fly their kites: fishwah sails to sea. |
what's this? merely kelp! our wind has failed: we are lost. love, i sail for thee. |
heat shimmers: my dear?
no, it's a trick of the light... fishwah sailed to sea. |
a lone branch drifts by: red leaves, wilted, catch the light. love, i sailed for thee. |
buried in the sand:
a tattered branch, shredded sail. fishwah, wait for me. |
Zwei is well-known in Puddleby for her bravery and her poetry.
