Callus sent TMN the following report:
"I thought that TMN readers would be interested in this rescue:
"The situation: a small group is exploring the foothills, starting from Camp Dred and traveling to the shimmering pool. Yor went ahead to scout the snell, exiting Sor's Door (into snell 11 on Entil'Zha's map), and got surrounded by 40+ Midnight Wendeckas. What followed was Zorton's own version of a 'Darkane' rescue!
"Side note: everyone made it safely to town!"

Thanks to Elgorean and Santa Chicken for the images.

Azriel has a new journal entry on Bawkmas events and an encounter with a talkative spriggin.
Galadriel sent the following inquiry to TMN:
"It was my impression that only properly trained exile mystics could tune sunstones into sungems or suncrytals. I accidentally ran into Stuenora yesterday, and she immediately offered to upgrade my suncrystal to a sungem (see image above). I was taken aback. Is she now competing with exile mystics for the sunstone upgrade business?"
Poesy and the Puddleby Players sent this announcement to TMN:
"The Bawkmas show is not dead! New script! New players! Old players! We've got it all! Ok, we've got a short Bawkmas sketch, think of it as a teaser to whet your appetite for Anfyr's Five Act Extravaganza. There will be bard music, bad acting, and beer! How better to spend the day after that gifty holiday? The show will start at 1pm PST December 26th in the ballroom. We'll begin with a half-hour Bard jam. The skit will be at 1:30, and then beer! Or maybe beer first...always! And then more music until we pass out. Come for the first half, stay for the second, or come for the second half and stay for the first! Whatever your pleasure, we'll be there to entertain."

Update: festive holiday rat, not vermine.
Update 2: Aravir has a journal update with more information on Puddleby's decorations. Aravir reports that Malkor ran off and decorated Junko's dump with some Bawkmas lights that were provided to him. In other Malkor-related news, J'nder sent TMN the following message:
"I was shocked to find this portrait of Malkor when in my local pub! Is no place sacred? I see the brewer has a lot of skea, perhaps they should be hunting spriggans instead of making beer for them!"
Himitsu reports that the Bawkmas play has been cancelled, due to a lack of volunteers.
(Editor's Note: TMN would be pleased to publish the script for the play, if the authors are interested.)

TMN BREAKING NEWS
TMN has learned that a group of exiles has successfully breached areas beyond the pitch noid cave entrance and are proceeding with further exploration. They plan to publish more details as they become available.
TMN received the following announcement from the Gamblers Anonymous Board:
"Sorry to write to you under the cover of anonymity, but you will certainly understand why. We are a small organization called Gamblers Anonymous. Our goals are not really to cure people of their addiction to gambling, because it seems to run through ALL of us, under various forms. One could even call *hunting* a kind of gambling!
Rather than curing, we try to help addicted people feel less alone, have fun, and become more successful. We also like to entertain exiles and ourselves with custom and hopefully fun games. Lately, we figured that since addiction to gambling can take various forms, there may be more addicted exiles than we know of. And they may need help!"
As a result, we have decided to advertise our group and its scrolls. Please search in the library for http://gamblers.clanlord.net for more information about our organization.

Ann GM made the following announcement on USENET in comp.sys.mac.games.adventure:
Announcing a Clan Lord T-shirt (and other stuff) design contest.
We're planning to put one or more Clan Lord designs on T-shirts, sweatshirts, and maybe mugs and other stuff at Cafe Press. We've ordered a sample shirt to make sure the quality is acceptable first, but as long as it is, we'll need a good design. Trust me, you don't want *my* art on the thing. :)
Designs should meet the Cafe Press image guidelines for shirts:
http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/images.aspx
They can be front-only or both front and back.
The deadline for submissions is Sunday, January 11, at midnight Pacific time. Send them to me by email.
Like any good contest, this one has prizes! First, of course, there's the fame and honor of having designed a shirt for a cool game. :) If we do end up making shirts (as long as one of the designs is suitable and Cafe Press has good enough quality), then the winner will also receive a free shirt. In addition, he or she will get to choose one of the following prizes:
1. A museum display space
2. Two dyeing berries (lilaberries, orgaberries, or brambleberries)
3. An announce token
4. A temporary signpost
5. 3000 coins
The winner of this contest will be chosen by me. I am the only official judge, and my decision will be final. If there are more than one exceptional designs then we may make more than one T-shirt choice, or put some of them on different kinds of items.
If there are multiple winners, first place will choose first from that list, then second place, and so on.
Designs can use your own art, screenshots, or any of the artwork from the Clan Lord website (except Apple's "X"). If you need an image you can't get from a screenshot, ask me and I'll send a copy if I can. I think I can also send 'Clan Lord' or 'Delta Tao' in a size you request in DT's customary font (Italia bold, for those who have access to it: http://www.linotype.com/693/itcitalia-family.html).
Although it's not a requirement, designs should preferably include the name "Clan Lord" and its URL (http://www.clanlord.com), and possibly "Delta Tao". Spelling counts! :) It would also be best if they were clean -- meaning something your 14-year-old sister could wear to school.

Was Tara buried? Koppi was reporting something to the effect that she might have been. Yet she was selling her special muffins today in town. So what's her status? Is she above or below ground?
Update: Doh, my mistake, of course she wasn't selling them. Wuv muffins are naturally free.
Meshra invaded Puddleby today. The biggest battles were at the south gate and south of town. The meshra forces were repelled, but not before two new kinds of meshra were identified: Blood Meshra and Deep Meshra. Blood meshra steal coins from the fallen.
Chaos on Ash Island broke out this evening as exiles battled against an alliance of undine and Darshak forces. Many fell in the Horde, and were rescued via some excellent chain work by Iho. After regrouping in the south, the forces from Puddleby cleared the Horde.
