FEATURE INTERVIEW
PARAMEDIC TALKS WITH FROZEN SHADE
Paramedic says, "As you probably know, there are 5 questions to a Fishwrap interview."
Frozen Shade is a Sylvan, is female, is a Fighter, and is wearing the symbol of The Fellowship.
She is holding a gitor and a wooden shield.
(Revived from fate. Cursed to unfetter. Unscathed of light.)
Frozen Shade has 48 good and 3 bad karma.
Frozen Shade says, "Ask away"
The evil that orgas do
Paramedic says, "1) Let's start by asking you to tell our readers a little about yourself"
Paramedic asks, "Who are you? And why are you in exile?"
Frozen Shade says, "Well, I came to the lands long ago due to a rumor that my sister was here"
(Paramedic listens)
Frozen Shade says, "My first days here were rough...."
(Paramedic nods)
(Frozen Shade pulls some of her hair back, revealing a missing eye)
Paramedic exclaims, "Egad!"
(Frozen Shade growls slightly, glaring at her Orga Eye)
Paramedic asks, "Who did that to you?"
Paramedic asks, "an orga?"
Frozen Shade says, "Yes"
Frozen Shade says, "A magician I believe they are called"
Paramedic asks, "So life here has been rough for you?"
Frozen Shade says, "That was almost 13 years ago although"
Paramedic asks, "So you are a long-time resident of Puddleby, yes?"
Frozen Shade says, "Yes"
Paramedic says, "I can remember you from a long time ago"
Paramedic asks, "Did you ever find your sister?"
Frozen Shade says, "Oh yes +)"
Paramedic asks, "and your sister is....?"
Frozen Shade says, "Aeris"
Paramedic asks, "Is Aeris around here these days?"
(Frozen Shade nods)
Frozen Shade says, "I imagine she's working hard in the library right now"
Paramedic asks, "She's the bookworm type?"
Frozen Shade says, "If you asked her, I would doubt she would think so."
(Paramedic smiles)
Paramedic asks, "Why are you named "Frozen Shade"? It's an unusual name."
Frozen Shade says,"I am from the clan Shade.... I don't remember my name. Most of my memories from when I was a child was in a cold cave.... frozen."
Frozen Shade says, "As I remember things from my past I do write them down. But no one has seen my journal as of yet."
Paramedic says, "If you do make a journal available, be sure to let me know"
The Fellowship
Paramedic asks, "2) Can you tell us a little about your clan, The Fellowship?"
Frozen Shade says, "The Fellowship was here before I arrived"
Frozen Shade says, "Eli the Fox had founded it"
(Paramedic listens)
Frozen Shade says, "But since leaving the lands"
Frozen Shade says, "He gave me leadership over it ..."
Frozen Shade says, "But that did not last long"
Frozen Shade says, "As I left the lands as well, for a while"
(Paramedic listens)
Frozen Shade says, "Crunch has assumed leadership"
(Paramedic nods)
Frozen Shade says, "Although, I still have an active role in any major decision"
Paramedic asks, "Is it a large clan?"
Frozen Shade says, "No, not very"
Frozen Shade says, "It always has been small"
Frozen Shade says, "After the Ripture war, we had only but 4 members"
Paramedic asks, "Do the members ever have meetings? Or are you all pretty much independent?"
Frozen Shade says, "Right now it is mostly independant"
Frozen Shade says, "I would say"
Frozen Shade says, "I am the most frequent member out of the library"
Paramedic asks, "Are you happy with the clan? Ever consider joining another clan?"
Frozen Shade says, "Well... not very happy no"
Paramedic asks, "Oh?"
Frozen Shade says, "No one has asked, so I've never the chance to consider other clans."
Frozen Shade says, "I still have responsibilities within The Fellowship though. So it is doubtful I'd ever consider changing"
Paramedic asks, "Are there any clans you particularly admire?"
Frozen Shade says, "Well... nah, I'll leave that to myself +)"
(Paramedic smiles)
Frozen Shade says, "There is a clan I do greatly admire."
Frozen Shade says, "But we can leave it as that"
Paramedic says, "ok"
(Paramedic smiles)
Hitting the wraith
Paramedic asks, "3) What is your weapon of choice and why?"
Frozen Shade says, "My Greatsword"
Frozen Shade says, "As it helps me hit things... and for the price I paid for it, it better be good."
Paramedic asks, "You prefer it to something like an axe?"
Frozen Shade says, "Yes"
Frozen Shade says, "I don't even have my axe anymore"
Paramedic asks, "What circle of fighter are you?"
Frozen Shade says, "3rd"
Paramedic asks, "Think you'll be making 4th anytime soon?"
Frozen Shade says, "yes"
Paramedic asks, "Getting close, huh?"
Frozen Shade says, "I cannot quite hit the greater wraith that well"
Paramedic says, "Those are pretty nasty."
Frozen Shade says, "But I believe I will be able to get very close once I am able to hit that wraith more effectively"
Paramedic asks, "What are you training these days?"
Frozen Shade says, "Atkus"
Frozen Shade says, "But"
Frozen Shade says, "I do not like his teachings that much"
Frozen Shade says, "I hope to return to Evus soon"
Paramedic says, "I hear many are dissatisfied with Atkus"
Frozen Shade says, "He is too strict in his ways"
Frozen Shade says, "Evus has a different approach which I like"
(Paramedic nods.)
Frozen Shade's travels
Paramedic asks, "4) Where are your favorite hunting grounds?"
Frozen Shade says, "I like to travel with my sister to the lake, and the plains above it"
(Paramedic nods)
Frozen Shade says, "I do not hunt..."
Paramedic asks, "oh?"
Frozen Shade says, "but I like to travel the tanglewood often"
Rael the Squonk says, "Meat is murder."
(Rael the Squonk licks his chops.)
Paramedic asks, "You don't hunt at all?"
Frozen Shade exclaims, "Oh I do!"
Frozen Shade says, "Just not in the tanglewood +)"
Paramedic says, "Ah I see."
Frozen Shade says, "I like to travel through the passes as well"
Paramedic asks, "How about the various islands, like Fire Island or Kismia's Island...ever go there?"
Frozen Shade says, "I do travel to Kismia's isle more often than I should"
Frozen Shade says, "It seems every few days I find myself there"
Paramedic asks, "You go there with large groups?"
(Frozen Shade nods)
Frozen Shade says, "Sometimes too large of ones"
Paramedic asks, "What do you think of that place?"
Frozen Shade says, "It greatly depends on who is travelling with me"
Frozen Shade says, "I have had good and bad times there"
Paramedic asks, "Do you think Umbrion is a force for evil?"
Frozen Shade says, "Evil.... Well no, not evil"
(Paramedic listens)
Frozen Shade says, "That is a strong word"
Frozen Shade says, "I do believe him to be rash though"
Paramedic asks, "Should we be concerned he may try to harm Puddleby?"
Frozen Shade says, "As of right now, I wouldn't think that necessarily"
Frozen Shade says, "But who knows."
Paramedic asks, "How about Tenebrion?"
Frozen Shade says, "Tenebrion... I don't think he is as wise as his brother."
Paramedic asks, "Oh really?"
Frozen Shade says, "But he does seem to think more lightly of other's minds."
Frozen Shade says, "I did speak with Umbrion once"
Frozen Shade says, "while he was visiting his brother"
Paramedic asks, "Oh? what did he say?"
Frozen Shade says, "He was harsh at first. But then soothed his words"
Frozen Shade says, "I remember he did call me a beautiful sylvan"
(Frozen Shade blushes slightly)
Paramedic says, "He sounds insightful"
(Paramedic smiles)
Frozen Shade says, "Tenebrion and Umbrion do both look so much alike"
Frozen Shade says, "I mistook them when we first met"
Paramedic asks, "How do you think exiles should deal with Tenebrion and Umbrion? Should we open negotiations?"
Frozen Shade says, "I think either of them could offer some knowledge"
(Paramedic nods)
Frozen Shade says, "But I personally would rather like to know Umbrion"
Frozen Shade says, "He does seem more intelligent."
Paramedic asks, "Do you think they are reasonable men? Could we work with them?"
Frozen Shade says, "It depends on who 'we' would be"
Frozen Shade says, "I could see them disliking one person... and holding it against the whole town"
Paramedic says, "Indeed, they do tend to see us all as one sometimes"
Frozen Shade says, "I'm not sure if I were they, I would so easily want to befriend this town."
Frozen Shade says, "But... as they do seem to dislike each other"
(Paramedic listens)
Frozen Shade says, "I think it would be better if we tried to talk with Umbrion"
Frozen Shade says, "He doesn't seem so careless with... experiments"
Paramedic says, "Yes, I know what you mean."
Frozen Shade says, "And his knowledge with magic seems to be great"
Working together against the orga
Paramedic asks, "Have you been on the full moon orga camp raids??"
Frozen Shade says, "Yes, I have"
Paramedic asks, "how do you think those are going?"
Frozen Shade says, "I'm unsure if they should be called a raid..."
Paramedic asks, "why is that?"
Frozen Shade says, "I would more think of them as hunts to help mystics"
Frozen Shade says, "As it seems to me, they are the only ones who benefit from them"
Frozen Shade says, "I am glad to help"
Frozen Shade says, "But I don't think they are raids, in the usual sense."
Paramedic asks, "Do you think progress is being made? Are the trips worth it?"
Frozen Shade says, "I don't know of any trips that aren't worth it"
Frozen Shade says, "As we gain knowledge even from failure"
Frozen Shade says, "So, yes I think progress is being made"
Paramedic asks, "Do exiles seem to co-operate well there?"
Frozen Shade says, "For the people who show up to help"
Frozen Shade says, "I would say yes for the most part"
(Paramedic nods)
Frozen Shade says, "But I have seen exiles well-known for their leadership disagree with others of their like there."
Paramedic says, "I know there are often some hard feelings caused during those expeditions"
Frozen Shade says, "yes"
Frozen Shade says, "The worst problem I see though, is that some exiles are not aware of what it requires"
Paramedic asks, "so lack of knowledge about how to work together along the way is a big problem?"
Frozen Shade says, "Yes, you could sum it up with that"
Frozen Shade says, "I consider myself patient for the most part. But I get frustrated at the long pauses as well"
(Paramedic nods)
Pathfinding and Skea
Paramedic asks, "5) What monster do you dislike the most?"
Frozen Shade says, "The Orga Magician"
Paramedic exclaims, "Understandable!!"
Frozen Shade says, "I could even expand that to all Orga in general..."
Paramedic says, "Orga are so annoying and persistent"
Frozen Shade says, "I like to go to their camp"
Frozen Shade says, "Every so often"
Paramedic asks, "and attack them?"
Frozen Shade says, "And kill any presence there is of them"
(Paramedic nods)
Frozen Shade says, "It gives me a sense of fulfilment when I do that"
Paramedic asks, "bonus question: how do you feel about pathfinding? Do you have any of that skill?"
Frozen Shade says, "Pathfinding"
(Paramedic nods)
Frozen Shade says, "I am no good at it"
Frozen Shade says, "I am good at remembering, but not looking so well"
Paramedic asks, "so you depend on others to help you get into certain areas?"
Frozen Shade says, "Yes"
Frozen Shade says, "I remember where all the paths are I come accross"
Frozen Shade says, "but I can never seem to find them..."
Paramedic asks, "how about Skea?"
Frozen Shade says, "Skea"
(Paramedic nods)
Frozen Shade says, "Well"
Frozen Shade says, "I used to skin good"
Frozen Shade says, "But then one day"
Frozen Shade says, "I kept blundering with my knife"
Frozen Shade says, "And I still continue to"
Paramedic asks, "so you don't seem to be very good with skinning now?"
Frozen Shade exclaims, "I'm horrible now!"
Paramedic says, "oh no"
Paramedic says, "that's not good."
Frozen Shade says, "I even blunder on vermine all the time"
Frozen Shade says, "Guess my hands just aren't as good as they were a few years ago."
Paramedic says, "Ok, it looks like we're coming to the end of the interview"
Paramedic says, "As you may know, you now get to ask the Thoom 1 (ONE) question"
Paramedic says, "That's ONE (1) question, for the Thoom"
Frozen Shade says, "I supose it's not really a question..."
(Paramedic listens)
Frozen Shade says, "But I do find it remarkable that how you continue to help those in need. As my earliest memories of this isle, you've been helping those."
Frozen Shade asks, "If you need a question... What drives you so?"
Paramedic says, "That's a good question."
Paramedic says, "I think what keeps me going these days is the continued committment of the many Thooms in my clan."
Paramedic says, "And the way that projects like the South Forest hospital have worked out so well keeps me going, even on the tougher days."
Frozen Shade says, "I have visited the hospital before"
(Paramedic nods)
Paramedic says, "The South Forest one is not as busy as it used to be, but the NWF one is often busy now."
(Frozen Shade nods)
Frozen Shade says, "I don't find myself up there often... very rarely in fact"
Paramedic says, "I don't think I have seen you up there, actually"
Paramedic says, "It's interesting how people seem to settle into different areas to spend their time"
(Frozen Shade nods)
Frozen Shade says, "I am usually to the east of this isle, or not even on the isle itself"
Paramedic says, "Yes, exactly. I even associate you with those areas, while I tend to be more of a south and north forest sort of exile"
Paramedic says, "Thanks, Frozen, for an excellent interview. I'm looking forward to getting this out to my readers."
(Frozen Shade smiles softly)

From the Fen News Bureau
by Jeanne
The Fighter Guild has recently been shocked with the departure of not only Atkus but Detha as well. I did not see them leave myself but I have heard from others that they are collecting money for the production of a new potion. A potion that is reputedly far more powerful than any we have currently. However, when the potion was demonstrated, it appeared to be no more stronger than the Red Potion curently in limited use. Considering that the going price for this new potion is approximately 90,000 coins, the only reason many have in donating their coins is to get the two trainers back.
---
I was fortunate enough to see Atkus in town discussing the current Mar Solkin situation with many exiles in town. Most agreed that Mar Solkin could not be trusted because he won't tell us how much he has collected so far. An idea was brought forth that an exile should hold the money with several discussions springing up about who the most trustworthy exile was. Then Mario OneEye suggested that a potion clan be started to hold the money, which got some support. It was doubtful that any agreement could be reached until Kiriel D'Sol came forward with the news that the Winds of Dawn keeps track of the transactions in their clan account. Both the clan and the exiles who could withdraw from the account were approved by the exiles present to be the clan in charge of the potion fund. Kiriel D'Sol made a web site to track these funds and you can find it here:
http://www.windsofdawn.org/potionfund.html
Atkus agreed to inquire with Announcius to put this in the news and Koppi will soon be spreading the word.
After this agreement was made, Atkus went with myself and a few others for a short trek around the north forest and the new north forest area. Atkus fights very well and someone said that he must have trained in Darkus. Atkus replied that it was the result of his "deadly accuracy." We made a few good coins, all of which went to the Potion Fund. Then Atkus auctioned off his trusty short sword that has his name on it to raise money. He was doubtful that it would sell for anything but, after heavy bidding by Ippon and Gorvin, it went for 2000 coins to Gorvin. Then Atkus left after saying "I will go and rest in the Fighter's hall for a while. I have to pack for the Foothills expedition." So while Detha is still away from the Fighter's Hall, fighters can now find Atkus in his usual position at least for a little while.

In my wanderings through the lands, I have sometimes wandered in the temple dedicated to Gaia to see if their messages have changed to perhaps having some useful information. I've thought of Earth or Gaia as being the patron deity of fighters along with the Sun for the mystics and the Moon for the healers. However, despite the worshippers inside Gaia's temple saying that there are more followers every day, I have never met any nor have I heard of their activities. Another worshipper tells me that I have yet to prove myself (which is why I can't go to the inner area), but I do not know how to go about proving myself or even whether I want to.
Do you know of these patron deities and how to contact them? (I am not just interested in Gaia but the Moon and the Sun as well.) Would you like to be interviewed about your experiences for future publication in the Fishwrap? If so, contact me at

6/14/01 5:17:36p Jeanne asks, "What would you like to be built on the location of the burned building where Arlyn Stonecutter used to be?"
6/14/01 5:17:47p Raldin says, "a money machine"
6/14/01 5:17:56p Jeanne asks, "money machine?"
6/14/01 5:17:59p Jeanne asks, "What is that?"
6/14/01 5:18:01p Org du Lac exclaims, "a money tree!"
6/14/01 5:18:05p Raldin says, "yes that makes coins magically"
6/14/01 5:18:15p Jeanne asks, "who will it give the coins too?"
6/14/01 5:18:19p Org du Lac exclaims, "Mystics!"
6/14/01 5:18:22p Raldin says, "me, mainly"
6/14/01 5:18:34p Raldin says, "errr I suppose other mystics too"
6/14/01 5:18:38p Jeanne says, "I think that a certain mystic isn't taking this poll question seriously."
6/14/01 5:18:41p (Org du Lac chuckles.)
6/14/01 5:18:53p Raldin says, "uhm I'd like that spot free actually"
6/14/01 5:19:04p Jeanne asks, "Okay, you want it to remain green?"
6/14/01 5:19:10p Raldin says, "nice to to hit yer face on a building when you run out of lib"
6/14/01 5:19:40p Raldin says, "but if they MUST put something in a money machine or tree is good,"
6/14/01 5:20:51p Jeanne says, "Answer away"
6/14/01 5:20:53p V'ree says, "A supply shop that sells items that can be found in the wild (rocks, logs, metal, ulis, spores, other stuff) for outrageous prices so people never buy anything from there."
6/14/01 5:21:22p V'ree says, "So if people really really need something, and no one is selling, they can spend more and buy it there"
6/14/01 5:21:22p Jeanne says, "Like a gift shop but that sells things that are useful."
6/14/01 5:21:27p V'ree says, "Right"
6/14/01 5:21:47p V'ree says, "Maybe empty barrels, and ingredients too"

6/14/01 5:27:11p Jeanne asks, "What would you like to be built on the location of the burned building where Arlyn Stonecutter used to be?"
6/14/01 5:28:48p Eek exclaims, "I'd have to say.....uh......a pawn shop!"
6/14/01 5:28:54p Eek exclaims, "Buy and sell used goods!"

OUR COLLAPSING ISLAND?
BY ALIAS
Weeks ago, a landfall opened a pit in town leading directly to the home of the myrm queen, then mysteriously was sealed.
Last week, the thin sand above the meshra lair gave way in the south field. Again, this was mysteriously sealed.
As the dwarves tunnel further and further under Puddleby itself, are we making the very ground we live on unstable? They've linked their mysterious tunnels to the two places where many undine are seen, are the Dwarves under the town secretly in league with them? Just what is this mysterious guild under construction below? Who is mysteriously sealing these breaches from below?
Many many questions of a disturbing nature remain unanswered... yet still we give wood, stones, metal and money towards the expansion of the tunnels with the dubious intention of allowing faster access around the island. Now, I don't know about you, but I've rarely been in a cavern in Puddleby which has allowed faster access from one point to another, but I may be the exception. I shan't enter into how much of our power in the land is derived from the sun and the moon, both of which are only seen from above ground.
Personally, I dread the day that what little culture and industry we've managed to rebuild from that lost on the mainland is swallowed as the tunnels underground reach the sea... and the entirety of town (which is riddled with tunnels from dwarves, guilds, pubs and other things now) becomes a new Atlantis... lost beneath the waves.
Puddlebeans, look to what is below and think before you donate. That, or start investing in the Puddleby Navy.

FMOCR REPORT
BY NYSSA
The raid last full Moon was not successful in reaching the 4th orga camp. At least no one departed, although several spent quite a long time fallen in the 3rd orga camp.
The door to the 2nd camp has apparently started to move about again. For many Moons, it had seemed to remain in the bushes lining the south end of the 1st orga camp. On this latest occasion, it was found in both of the two trees NE of that spot at different times.
I remind anyone who might be looking that the door to OC2 has also been found rarely in a spot in the bushes a little west of the long-time location. Also a longer time ago, the door was found a little south of the path to the snaggy wood.
The mystic door to the 3rd orga camp apparently remains on the east border of the 2nd camp, north of the tree line that is just north of the hidden path to the 3rd camp. The path remains the most convenient and tactically viable way to the 3rd camp.
We never were able to open the door to the 4th camp, and Malkor said that the same was true the Moon before that. There are many illusions in the SE quadrant of the third camp. The locations of all that I recall except one were illuminated at times during the raid by "sparkles" visible to many exiles, including the place where the door had been apparently stationary for many Moons. The remaining place was on the west side of the area in the SE of the camp. I believe that I saw a very brief "sparkle" there, but only once. It seems that when sparkles are visible to non-mystics, the doors there always lead only to other places in the same camp.
In the Moons before the doors apparently became stationary for a long period, they were observed to move on the strike of the hour. The behaviour seemed random in that a working door might stay in the same place, move to another, or close for an hour in an unpredictable way. The door in the 1st camp seemed to follow something like this pattern, although I did not note the times, and we never seemed to lose it for long.
This behaviour tends to give me some hope that we were only unlucky, and that the doors may be more accessible on the next Moon. The results of this raid were certainly discouraging, but I, at least, intend to try once again upon the next full Moon. The full Moon day still will occur at a time when many exiles should be able to help. I shall hope to see you there.

ASK THE THOOM
Q: Dear Mr. Thoom,
Would you tell us about the process of Thoom reproduction?
GrayGradient
A: Mr. Gradient,
I can tell you that water and chocolate are involved. If I told you any more, I would have to kill you.
---
Q: Hey Mr. Thoom:
Are Fens flammable?
Diff
A: Dear Diff,
It depends how close to the fire you put them.
---
Q: Dear Mr. Thoom,
Is there a way to keep the blood off my clothes?
Kalle'
A: Dear Kalle':
Maybe you could try a Thoom-like robe.
---
Q. Dear Mr. Thoom:
How does ThoomCare coordinate benefits with my other insurance plan?
Mancks
A. Dear Mancks:
ThoomCare reviews each member file and determines if it is the primary insurer or the secondary insurer for each family member. Before ThoomCare can coordinate benefits as a secondary insurer, the member must submit a copy of the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from the primary insurance plan. This is the member's responsibility.
When the EOB is received at ThoomCare, the allowable expenses are determined based on the total amount billed. In addition, ThoomCare will determine whether the services are covered by the Member's Certificate of Coverage. In some rare instances, the member may still have some out-of-pocket expenses after both insurance plans have coordinated benefits. In these cases, the Puddleby branch of ThoomCare will cover the difference through an internal insurance program. Be sure to present your ThoomCare healer with Form 673E to document any such out-of-pocket expenses.

"Then you too have to deal with Storoenna. She is again insisting I have a , in there. The nerve! What is a , anyway? And why does she always insist I have one? What does it do? The Knight suggested it might be a poisonous sword. An invisible one. Hope Storoenna accidentally trips and stabs herself."
